On October 27, 2006, Denise Egéa-Kuehne, Professor and Director of the French Education Project in the College of Education, Department of Educational Theory, Policy and Practice, was awarded a Trophées FEMMES 3000 which recognizes exceptional French women who live and work outside France, and the importance of their presence and action everywhere in the world. The award ceremony took place in the French Senate Salons de Boffrand, Palais du Luxembourg in Paris, France. (Peabody Bulletin December 2006, p. 12) http://coe.ednet.lsu.edu/coe/highlights/fall_2006/denise_award.html The theme of the 2006 award was "Initiatives Abroad," and included three categories: Initiatives Sociales et Culturelles, Esprit d'Entreprise, and Image de la France. Egéa-Kuehne's award was in the latter category. Christian Poncelet, President of the French Senate, presided over the ceremony with the prestigious sponsorship of Michel Guerry, Senator representing the French citizens living abroad, and the support of Christine Lagarde, Minister of Foreign Trade. The Trophées were conferred by Madame Josiane Gaude, President of FEMMES 3000, in the presence of His Excellency the Ambassador of Canada in France, His Excellency the Ambassador of Mexico in France, François Loos, Minister Delegate for Industry, and numerous other personalities. The objectives of FEMMES 3000 aim to "bring more visibility to women active in institutions, enterprises, and public offices." By attributing the Trophées, their goal is to "valorize and reward these women's courage, relevance, and perseverance in asserting themselves abroad through their unique life journeys." FEMMES 3000 works in collaboration with the French Senate, and with the support of such prestigious partners as Air France, Accor, Melisana, Pierre Fabre, Biche de Bère, Lalique, Ricard, Wine and Business Club, Les Côtes de Blaye, le peintre Corbassière, Acta Réprographie, and Com'Agency, who all actively participate in the promotion of women's role in public life, and to the development of the projects which make them prominent.
