HISTORY
In 1987, the French Education Project was established as the pedagogical arm of the Center for French and Francophone Studies with assistance from the Consulat Général de France in New orleans, the Communauté Française de Belgique, the Bureau du Québec, and with local support from the College of Education and the College of Arts and Sciences at Louisiana State University, and CODOFIL (Council for the Development of French in Louisiana).

"The French Education Project is one of the three poles which, along with the Center for French and Francophone Studies and the Department of French Studies constitute the Louisiana State University Pluridisciplinary Center. Established in 1998 to promote various initiatives around interdisciplinarity and in order to increase the visibility of French in all areas of university life, the LSU Pluridisciplinary Center has been identified as a Center of Excellence by the French government, articulated around those three poles of complementary activities. Those three associated components enable the development of francophone activities beyond purely linguistic dimensions" (France-Louisiana Accords 2006-2008).

On Mai 13, 2005, the National Resource Center for the Teaching of French as a Second Language and French Immersion in the French Education Project was officially inaugurated with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Louisiana State University System (Carolyn Hargrave, Vice President for Academic Affairs, LSU System), and the Embassy of France for the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the French Ministry of Education (Chantal Manès, Head of the Education Department, French Embassy, French Ministry of Foreign Affairs). The ceremony took place on the LSU campus, in the Maison Française.

With the renewal of the France-Louisiana Accords, the Memorandum of Understanding is now integrated to the Accords. The official signing ceremony took place on September 25, 2008, at the Governor's mansion in Baton Rouge. The next signing will be in Paris in 2012.

2004-2007, the FEP was a Center for the Test de Connaissance du Français (TCF) managed by the International Center of Pedagogical Studies (CIEP) in Sèvres, France.
