The Impact of Pilgrims and Native Americans on American Life |

This Unit is designed for grades K-2nd with focus on instructional level of 1st grade. It covers all curriculum areas with emphasis on Reading, Language Arts, Social Studies, and Technology. Reading will be intergrated through books, PowerPoint presentations, web browsing, Internet research, posters, and charts. Language Arts will be integrated in journal writing, booklet (worksheets) writing, and Internet research. Social studies will be integrated through Web Browsing, discussions, PowerPoint, and cultural activities which will include Math (patterns, geometric shapes, and measurement) and Science skills (multi-sensory inquiry). Technology will be integrated using computers keyboarding, videos, surfacing the Internet, and developing a PowerPoint slide show. Essential Question (s): What are the history, custom, and traditions associated with the holiday called “Thanksgiving.” Who were the Native Americans? Who were the Pilgrims? What are distinguishing characteristics of Native Americans and Pilgrim? How can Native Americans be categorized/grouped in the United State? How did they communicate? How did they travel? Where did they live? What did Native Americans look like? What kinds of homes did Native Americans have? What kinds of food did Native Americans eat? What kinds of jobs did Native Americans perform? What did they contribute to American culture?
