These are questions you will be encouraged to ask yourself as you tour Harlem of the 1920’s and 30’s and complete a novel study.  You will be transported back in time to the hotspots of the Harlem Renaissance and experience the famous personalities, music, art, poetry and prose of the era.  Then, immediately after you return, you will read Bronx Masquerade by Nikki Grimes and be inspired by students who learn to effectively express their dreams and fears through the poetry of the legacy. 

Designed to instigate and motivate, this unit will give you a new perspective when it comes to learning.  For this reason, you’ll keep a binder to track your progress.  Review Checklist and Rubric #1 and #2 for details on how to organize your binder.  Then follow the links to the virtual field trip and novel study and get ready to have so much you’ll be surprised that you’re also learning.
