Teams 1. Become an expert. First conduct research to answer the following questions. · What is a hurricane? · How does a hurricane form? · Why does a hurricane strengthen? · How do people find out where a hurricane is going? · How should one prepare for a hurricane? · What problems could be caused by a hurricane?
2.Brainstorm using the Kidspiration chart. Organize your research on different ways to prepare for a hurricane. Topics may include preparing your house, taking care of pets, taking care of property/plants, taking care of family members, etc. Choose one of the topics to focus on and have it approved by your teacher.
2. Organize your information to get the information out to everyone. Using your new expertise you will use the research questions to create a brochure using Microsoft Publisher. This brochure will be used to tell people about hurricanes and how dangerous they are. It will also include tips on how to prepare for a hurricane.
3. Research Katrina. Students will then research Hurricane Katrina information and view “Flash flood” to answer the following questions about New Orleans. · What problems were caused in New Orleans after the hurricane? · What can we do in the future to prevent these problems? · Should New Orleans be rebuilt?
4. Create your action plan for LA. Create a PowerPoint presentation answering these questions. The presentation should include text, graphics, sounds, music, etc. |
