Hurricane Webquest

St. James 5th Grade Science/technology

Everyone will be assigned a hurricane action team.  Each team will:

 

1.Research information about hurricanes and how they form to become an expert. 

 

2.Brainstorm with your group using the graphic organizer (from Kidspiration) about different things you have to do to prepare for a hurricane. (Taking care of pets, property, family, elderly, etc.) 

 

3. Choose one of the foci from your brainstorming session and organize your information into a brochure.  This brochure will be an information tool about preparing for hurricanes.  Pretend it will be given out to residents of your school, city, or state. 

 

4. Research hurricane Katrina and its effects on New Orleans. 

 

5. Create your action plan for LA.  This plan will be presented

by your group to a board of supervisors (or teachers).  It should address what happened to NO during Katrina and what we can do next time to avoid these things from happening.  This is your group’s ideas-be very convincing!
