Introduction

Hi Kids!  This WebQuest was developed as part of the science curriculum taught in 3rd grade.
It will guide you through a discovery of insect characteristics.  You will work in groups to explore several sites. You will learn about insect attributes, collect samples for our class insect zoo, and create a original insect of your own. By the time you're done, you'll be an Insect Expert!



The Task

In this WebQuest, you will:

1)  Decide if you will work with a partner or if you rather investigate insects alone.

2) Access and print the Insect Investigator page .
    Use this to record your information.

3) Visit these two links and read the poems.  Try to identify the main characters.
              Bow Your Head           Bumble Rumble

4) Click on  Insect Anatomy to learn the main parts of an insect's body.

5) Visit 3-d Insects Virtual Insects  Bug Mugs.  Look at several examples
    of insects.  Take note of common characteristics.  After viewing these sites, you
    should be able to complete your Insect Investigator page.

6) Now it's time to get creative!  Using all of that information, create an insect of
    your own.  Use KidPix or Paint to draw a picture of your insect.  Don't forget to
    name him and label all of his parts.  Be sure to print out your creation.
