| Student Characteristics | The students at the 5th and 6th grade level already have a basic knowledge of computers and the internet. They also have a goo knowledge of animals, however they do not know that much about the endangered animals. |
| Lesson Overview | Each student will research five or more endangered species and put them into a database. This is to get them familiar with researching and using hyperstudio. Many children don't know that animals are endangered. This lesson will help children understand which animals are endangered and how to help them. |
| Learning Objectives | 1. The student will have a basic knowledge
in using database, spreadsheets.
2. The student will learn how to use the internet sources as a way to research information. |

| Resources/Materials | Websites, Worksheets, and if children would
like to make an optional $1.00 donation. The children need access
to a computer with an internet provider and appleworks.

| Activities and Procedures | 1. Explain the lesson and answer any questions.
2. Pass out worksheets of a checklist, explain database and spreadsheets to students. 3. Have students go to websites and began researching. 4. After they have selected five animals, they will then put them into a database, making sure they mention all the specific areas that I provided. 5. Then after all of the databases are finished, each child will give a presentation discussing the animals and answer any questions. 6. Then, I will pass out worksheets with all of the animals names on them, the students are then to conduct a survey on their classmates about which animals they like. 7. After we have completed the poll, we will make a spreadsheet, then we will discuss which animal was least liked and which was most liked. 8. Afterwards, the class will adopt the animal most liked ( this is what the optional donation is for). |
