Introduction
Cells contain many parts that each perform a specific
function in order to make that cell work properly. These parts are
called organelles.
You are an animal cell that is missing one organelle.
In order to find that organelle a want ad will need to be placed in the
classified ads section of the newspaper. The ad should give a detailed
description of your missing organelle as well as its function.
The Task
Here is your task:
You are to create a want ad
using Microsoft word that provides the reader with a full description of
the appearance and function of your missing organelle. When the ads
are complete they will be compiled into a classified ads page using Presswriter.

The Process
-
First, you will be assigned
a group of 3 members.
-
Each group member will assume
one of the following roles:
-
Function finder--Your
job is to research the function of the missing organelle.
-
Description finder--Your
job is to research the description of the missing organelle.
-
Picture finder--Your
job is to research and find a picture of your missing organelle.
-
Using the research gathered,
each group should develop a classified ad explaining in detail the description
and function of the missing organelle. This part of the webquest
should be done using Microsoft Word.
-
Each group ad should be saved on the class server
in a folder with your group name.
When your ad is complete you should place it
in the folder named "Classified Ads" in Presswriter.
Rubric

here to see grading rubric.
Each group should obtain a copy of the Classified
Ads that have been compiled by the class. As a group, you should
read each ad and identify which organelle is being described in that ad.
Conclusion
This activity has allowed you to review
the structures and functions associated with animal cells. After
completing this webquest, you should be familiar with all of the cell structures,
including a description, the function and the ability to identify the structure
on a diagram.
When the webquest is complete, here is another
idea to explore:
1) Why is an animal cell distinguished
from a plant cell? What are the differences?
