Title Dinosaur Discovery
Subject and grade level Science, 3rd-5th
Student characteristics Students are interested in learning about dinosaurs and viewing pictures of them
Lesson overview Students will use the internet to find information about a particular dinosaur and record their findings in order to be able to use them to create a web on Kidspiration and a creative story on Presswriter.  They will see their projects come together to create a class dinosaur book.
The topic of dinosaurs was chosen because most students are fascinated by dinosaurs and are interested in learning about creatures that roamed the Earth millions of years ago.  There are many interesting websites about dinosaurs which offer great pictures and are easy to navigate.
Learning objectives Students will be able to search the internet for information and navigate to different sites.
They will learn how to incorporate pictures from the internet into their documents.
They will learn how to use Kidspiration to create a web of information on a topic.
Students will be able to use Presswriter to create a story and integrate pictures.
Students will learn various information about dinosaurs and their extinction.
Time This lesson should probably be spread across 3 days
Resources/materials Students will need computers with internet access, Kidspiration, Presswriter, and color printers.
Worksheets can be found at roles
Websites used are www.inhandmuseum.com
www.enchantedlearning.com/subjects/dinosaurs/allabout (links to pages within this site are provided)
Activities and procedures  1. Students  will get into groups of 3 and pick which role they want (historian, paleontologist, or artist).
2. Students search the internet to find the information relative to their role and jot down information onto their worksheets to be used later.
3. Students create a web on Kidspiration of dinosaur facts.
4. Students create a dinosaur story on Presswriter and incorporated pictures.
5. All the students' projects are combined together to produce a dinosaur book.
Assessment Students will be graded individually based on how well they fill out their worksheet with information (neatness and complete sentences don't matter as long as they get all the information down).
Students will be graded as a group on their webs and dinosaur stories.
