LESSON OVIERVIEW:
Do you want to help your students towards creating their own story? Well if
you do this is the place to be! This fun and exhilarating activity will keep
your students on task and eager to learn. The purpose is to get them familiar
with the structure of story writing and to encourage them to use their imaginations.
STUDENT CHARACTERISTICS:
This activity is directed towards children between the ages of 6-8. This activity will be based upon their own abilities, some kids may write better than others, or have better story lines but that doesn't matter in this activity it is about being creative, the freedom to write on what ever your heart desires. Let your kids explore the wonderful world of literature.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
As a result of this lesson plan the students
will be able to acknowledge the structure of story lines ex. Plot, Characters,
Climax, etc. They will create certain skills also by using this method
of writing for they are using their imaginations and thinking skills towrard
their work. This activity is fun and exciting, so perhaps it will lead
them towards writing more in the future. Another learning objective would
be the concept maps. Children will learn how to organize their thoughts
on paper and by this it will help them with their story.
TIME:
This lesson plan will take approaximately
5 days to complete. That is, if you do this assignment during your language
arts period. 1) Day One will be for gathering
information and working on concept maps.
2) Day 2 will be for rough draft (writing story)
3)
Day 3 will be for writing or typing good draft
4) day 4 is for creating the pictures to go along with the text.
5) presentations
Now
this this is a process that takes about a week to complete but like I said
before you can speed up the process if you'd like. This is just a guide
that works for me and most teachers.
RESOURCE AND MATERIALS
For resoursces get your students to read
some story books so that they will be able to get some ideas from them.
Another idea that I do
is read a book to the class and ask them questions like what is the plot,
or when does the climax begin, who is the main character etc. Start preping
them with story books before they create their own.
MATERIALS: Story books, pencils,
concept maps (paper), crayons, markers( for pictures) Computer if necessary
to type out good copy.
ACTIVITIES AND PROCEDURES
STEPS FOR TEACHER TO FOLLOW:
DAY ONE:
1) Read a
story and ask students questions on the structure in which it was written.
Ex. Climax,plot,etc.
2) Give each
student a handout- make a concept map so that they can create their thoughts
on it.
3) Make sure
to go around and observe their work, make sure their on the right track.
This should take
the whole period, but if students are finished let them begin their rough
draft.
DAY TWO:
1) Students
begin to work on rough draft.
2) tell some
of your students to bring their stories up to yoyr desk so that you can
modify their work.
3) most of

are finished their good draft they can now work on their finishing touch,
which is drawing pictures.

use crayons, markers, paints etc.
4) This also
will take the whole period
DAY FIVE:
